A precision instrument for carpentry and woodwork. This is the legendary Hjärtum model, originally designed and made by an old Swedish blacksmith family of Eriksson, Jonsson and Skoog. Able to cut precise shavings to bring out the shape from your green or dry wood. The hollow part of the head makes it possible to hold it close to the cutting edge center to direct and control the cut extremely well. The poll can be used as a hammer. True working pleasure.

One of the main features that sets this apart from other axes is the distinct shoulder on the bevels, this allows you to hold an angle whilst pushing the blade like a chisel.

All Wetterlings axes are hand made and measured by eye, therefore minor variations may occur.

Product Specification

1 kg Hjärtum axe head, made of Swedish carbon steel, 4" bit, 6 1/2" long. Equal bevels, ground to 26 degrees, hardened to 57-59 on the Rockwell Scale, poll hardened to 50 on the Rockwell Scale. 18" gently curved hickory handle.

Comes with a thick, very good quality rivited leather sheath which uses strong magnets to keep it in place. Also comes with the Wetterlings axe book and a lifetime guarentee on the head

Additional notes

When Wetterlings CEO Julia joined one of our courses recently she brought a Carpenter's Axe with her which gave us a chance to try it out.............. Whilst most sharp, well made axes will cut and shape wood we could see the special features of this axe would be useful for more conventional wood work such as creating tenons.

In November this year we were commissioned to make x6 large pergolas from 10" dia. oak stems. Having a Carpenter's Axe to help shape the tenons was very useful, shaving down the sides of the tenon instead of using a chisel and chopping down into the square corners to clear waste.
