European Style Dumbhead Shavehorse
For holding rough billets whilst being shaved with a drawknife or spokeshave
Product Description
Quick release holding device that you sit on. Made from a combination of machined and rustic hardwood
Product Specification
Made mostly from sawn hardwood, bed 4' long, approx 7" wide, 4 legged. This style is built with a central arm coming through the centre of the body and ramp at the top of which is a heavy dumbhead, this clamps onto the piece being shaved when footplate depressed. The last one we made was made mainly in oak
Additional notes
Essential piece of kit for pole lathe turners. In my opinion this type of shavehorse is better for working on longer timbers such as rails for cleft ash gates where the piece can be brought in from the side of the horse. Also it quickly adjusts to work timbers of different sizes and the head automatically lifts clear from the workpiece when your foot is released
