Svante Djarv Awl
uses
Once you have an awl its amazing how many uses they have. Conventionally used to make a small starter hole for a screw, but in a similar way they are good to help the pole lathe metal centres get a start and reduces the chance of a billet being thrown off the lathe. Simply find the centre at each end of your rounded billet, locate the Awl and turn a few times backwards and forwards. Remember to add some kind of wax into the starter hole.
