Product Description
Good quality, Austrian made canoe shaped stone for the sharpening of curved billhooks, scythes, grass hooks etc Approx size 260mm long x 37mm at its widest point x 15mm.
Synthetic medium whetstone, silicon carbide, 220 grit. A high quality intermediate stone, longer than some others. Good to refresh a tired blade that is dulled or if there edge damage. If you insist on a "one size fits all" whetstone, this is probably the best choice.
We have recently changed our supplier of this type of stone so we can offer something of much higher quality.
We would reccommend complementing this stone with one of a less aggresive grit i.e. the Bregenzar 300 grit which will leave your tool with a finer edge and fewer abrasions.

Additional notes
In our veiw, when sharpening a billhook there is no need to be quite as exact as you might be with an edge tool such as an axe or a carving knife, ie no need to be quite as fastidious when removing the burr or work towards a mirror finish on the edge. In the workshop billhooks are sharpened very easliy on a benchgrinder such as a Tormek, but these canoe stones do the job almost as well and the only option when out in the field (or the woods).
If you break these stones in two, they can be glued back together after very thorough drying with epoxy resin.
