James Mursell Travisher
Typically used after adzing chair and stool bottoms to do the final shaping and reduce visible tool marks. We use them to shape shavehorse bodies making them far more comfortable
Product Description
A modern design of an old classic tool made by chair maker James Mursell. Meticulously made wooden bodied travisher with a curved blade. The excellent blade is made by renowned British tool maker Ben Orford.
Very fine adjustment of the depth of cut is possible with built-in grub screws. Normally works on the push and across the grain
Product Specification
Wooden body made from English hard maple, 8" x 2.5" x 1". Blade has a 75mm long edge made from A2 tool steel. Comes with an allen key to adjust blade height via grub screws
Additional notes
Finished to a very high standard, one feature we particularly like is being able to drop the blade into the body when not in use, therefore protecting the edge.
Sharpen the inside of the bevel with slip stones or emery paper bonded to a round dowel. Remove the burr on the flat side on an ordinary Fine flat stone then finish on leather, as always.
