Ray Iles Chair Maker's Travisher
Hollowing concave features such as chair bottoms
Product Description
Wooden bodied travisher. A traditional tool typically used for the shaping of Windsor style seat bottoms. Like many traditional tools it emerged for a specific use and its design has changed and modified through the generations. This travisher is from respected tool maker Ray Iles'. The blade is easily removed for sharpening by means of two thumb screws
Product Specification
Made from hand selected, air dried beech, lightly treated with boiled linseed oil. To minimise wear on the mouth it has been treated with a hardener. The thick blade is made from 01 high carbon steel, it is honed and ready for use.
Additional notes
New tool from Ray Iles. Shavings exit from the back of the travisher making it self emptying, preventing blockages. There is a small amount of adjustment of the blade permitting the taking of small or large cuts
